What StoreLinter checks
Every check is deterministic — no AI guesswork. Each issue comes with a specific recommendation and, for missing SEO meta descriptions, image alt text, and product types, a Pro auto-fix path that bulk-writes via Shopify's GraphQL Admin API and stays fully reversible.
- Compliance
Legal page coverage
Verifies your store has a published Privacy Policy, Terms of Service, Refund Policy, Shipping Policy, and Contact Information page. These are App Store review requirements and legal requirements for stores in regulated markets.
Example — Issue: Refund Policy not published. Recommendation: Add via Settings → Policies → Refund policy. Pro auto-fix not applicable (legal copy requires merchant authorship).
- Catalog
Image alt text coverage
Scans every product image in your catalog and flags images missing the alt attribute or with empty alt strings. Alt text is required for accessibility (WCAG 2.1 AA) and improves image search ranking on Google + AI engines.
Example — Issue: 47 product images missing alt text. Pro auto-fix: bulk-generate descriptive alt strings from product title + type + tags, write via Shopify fileUpdate GraphQL. Reversible.
- Catalog
SEO meta description coverage
Checks every product's SEO meta description field. Missing meta descriptions hurt both Google search results and AI engine retrieval (ChatGPT, Perplexity often surface the meta description directly).
Example — Issue: 112 products missing SEO meta description. Pro auto-fix: bulk-generate 140-160 char descriptions matching brand tone, write via Shopify productUpdate GraphQL. Reversible.
- Catalog
Product description length
Flags product descriptions under 50 characters. AI shopping engines (ChatGPT, Google AI Mode) prefer products with detailed descriptions to surface in their answers.
Example — Issue: 8 products with descriptions under 50 chars. Recommendation: Expand each to 300-500 chars including features, use cases, and care instructions. Manual fix.
- Polish
Favicon presence
Checks whether a favicon is set in your theme. The browser-tab icon shoppers see when they pin your store — a missing favicon looks unfinished.
Example — Issue: No favicon set. Recommendation: Upload via Online Store → Themes → Customize → Favicon. Manual fix (favicon setting is theme-specific).
How auto-fix works
- You install the Pro plan (1-click via Shopify Managed Pricing, 7-day free trial).
- On the dashboard, every fixable issue shows a “Fix it” button.
- You click “Fix it” — we generate the new field value (alt text, meta description, or product type from the product's Shopify category) using your existing product context.
- We bulk-write via Shopify's GraphQL Admin API (productUpdate for SEO meta and product types, fileUpdate for alt text).
- Every fix is logged to the Work Ledger with the prior value.
- If you don't like a fix, click “Undo” on its Work Ledger entry — the prior value is written back.
- The Health Score updates immediately.
Free-plan scans never modify your store. Only the Pro auto-fix flow triggers writes, and only the fields you click “Fix it” on.
Common questions
The Free plan does exactly that. The full 18-check audit + Store Health Score is free forever. Pro adds the bulk auto-fixes on top.
Most SEO apps check 3-5 generic signals (title length, meta presence). StoreLinter's 18 checks cover the full merchant-success surface — compliance, catalog completeness, accessibility, and polish — and weight them by severity rather than treating them all the same.
Yes — Basic, Shopify, Advanced, Plus, even Starter. All checks are based on GraphQL Admin API endpoints that ship on every Shopify plan.
Image alt text coverage. Most Shopify stores have 60-95% of product images missing alt text, and the Pro auto-fix handles all of them in one click.
